Too much noise from upstairs tenants
Hey everyone! Has anyone had issues with too much foot traffic noise from tenants who live in apartments above.
Our tenants are not being overly loud but they have several kids and just the normal life with toddlers can create significant foot traffic noise for our other tenants.
Have you ever dealt with this and if so have you found any physical solutions that aren’t overly expensive (thicker padding for carpet, certain insulation, etc)
Thanks!

Even if you just had one tiny old lady living upstairs, it can sound like an elephant when you're downstairs, and some people are more sensitive to the sounds of someone walking around above them - I'm one of them, which is why I only rent the top floor unit when I rent.
Is there any way you could get them to swap apartments? Put them in a downstairs unit?
I had tenants who complained about upstairs neighbors, even when it was just one guy who was rarely home. What I did was offer them a vacant unit and I would just transfer their deposit if they left the old unit clean, or I'd tell them I'm so sorry the unit isn't working out for them and I'd waive the normal 30 days notice to move if they found somewhere sooner. I'd also explain that by law there is nothing I can do about normal living noises.
I learned not to harass a tenant about noise, if they really were just doing normal life noises. Sometimes gamers can be super noisy, even if they use headphones. I'd have to ask them not to scream obscenities while playing games. Heck, I even had tenants complain that other tenants were having sex too loudly. I told those tenants, there is no way I'm broaching that subject with anyone :-)
