Investing in NY Duplex

I sold my single family home after 14 long years. Just got feed up with the high taxes and no appreciation. I’ve decided to rent in the short term and I’m considering purchasing a multi family (duplex) in either Westchester NY or North NJ. Can anyone suggest good locations in these areas? Also, since this would be my first venture into real estate investing, would it make sense to purchase multiple properties at $400 - $500K or go with a luxury duplex above $1M? Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Regards, Raul

@Raul Tirado That depends on how much you are putting down and what the return is going to be on each property.  I'd focus on profitability over property type.
