Accredited Investors Groups... Know of any good ones?

I'm looking for accredited investor groups to present to and raise equity.

Have you presented to any good ones?

Keritsu Forum.. also most cities have a small angel type group.. I have presented before with them... Never did any good with them as I felt they were all looking for the next Google or FAcebook...

@Bryan Hancock I completely agree with @Jay Hinrichs on this.  I presented at an angel group nine times, it cost me $15K for the opportunity and I raised $400K from it. Hardly worth it, but all of the folks that comprised that $400K have re-invested with me multiple times since and also referred a few other investors, which heals the wound.

To be fair, that was three to four years ago and back then RE was a scarier investment in the eyes of the uninitiated so the environment might be totally different now. I don't see myself taking this route again, but I haven't ruled it out either.

I'm also a member of an angel group as an investor. I'm not there looking for RE opportunities, and neither is anyone else. Like Jay said, we're all there looking to discover the next Google and make a gazillion dollars on a $25K investment. Too bad it'll never happen.

Bryan, my experience with Angels was that as I stated ,,, Real estate to them was boring and 9 to 12% Apr returns pedestrian.

If you were looking for a capital partner then maybe..

These guys are used to RISK capital IE invest 500k in 5 deals 4 loose all their money and 1 makes 100x

I know I invested in a couple of these start ups and lost 100% of my investment.

My experience with angel groups or VC guys is that the average investor is looking for a minimum of 10X their money. Good luck with being able to realistically offer than with real estate.

How about at country clubs?

I think I am going to join CTAN anyway.  I am interested in angel investing whether or not we find any investors there.

Some of the crowdfunding portals have been wooing family offices.  That seems like a decent fit.  There are family office conferences that IMN puts on that are pretty good in my experience.

Most of my best investor leads come from BP, my network, referrals, and from our new portal.  You may consider opening up a funding platform Jon.  Writing for your local business journal pulls investors too.  My ABJ articles pulled a nice handful or investors.

my favorite that I thought I was really going to get rich on was Hidden Water pools it was so neat. I flew down to Rancho Sante Fe  to check out the demo pool it was WAY cool and I thought this can't miss... saves water in desert clim.. saves space.. just awesome.

Well it was great but it was 75k ... and the market was not interested in a 75k pool cover.

Even though you could drive a car on this one.. and when it was up you could not even tell a pool was there.

But I am a salesmen and we are the easiest to sell.. NOw I passed on the guy that had the space suit that he was going to sell for private space rides.. I think he was a little ahead of his time.

When I was listening and presenting. there was a developer from Idaho and he had a nice project up at McCall ( unbelievably beautiful place)  but he got NO action.

The one company that did the best had an on line game that would compete with Worlds of War craft or whatever you call that game that is played all over the place. they raised millions in that setting.. not being a game guy I did not invest.. Nor do I know if they actually did any good.

I then presented to a group in PDX.. and they were less enthused with RE..

So I think bottom line if your looking for angels to be on a par with private investors and be happy with sub 20% apr returns I did not think this was worth the time or effort.. And Keritsu charges money to present.. Can't remember if the PDX guys did or not.

What has your experience been like with pitching folks from the angel network groups?  I am working with CTAN in Austin and am planning on taking a soft approach to engaging investors there.  The CTAN head and the head of one of the other local angel networking groups have each spoken at my WIN meeting.

I was just wondering if the investors you have met are mostly looking for high risk and high reward and shun more steady growth projects or if they are a pretty diverse group.

Let me ask the opposite question: if you want to make your money available to someone on the short term but you want the structure and criteria of an angel investor group, how do you find an angel investment group to invest with?

Not a good fit and I know founders of all of the leading crowdfunding platforms. That can't raise for pooled funds. In addition, they charge high fees and generally have poor fundraising performance.
