Which sites are the best for short sales and foreclosures? I checked foreclosure.com, but it's 40 bucks a month. Not sure if there is value in that service. Are there any free services available?

You get what you pay for, sometimes. What are you looking for in a site? Personally, I think Biggerpockets is the best site for foreclosures and short sales, if you are looking for information on what they are and how to do them but, you weren't specific with your question. If you are looking for a "list", there is no such thing as a "list" of shortsales. If you are looking for a specific shortsale, um, find what listed for sale in yoru market, and see if they want to sell it for less than what's owed on it I guess. If you are looking for a "list" of foreclosures, probably gonna be pretty hit and miss. there is no list of "pre" foreclosures, and any list of active real foreclosures  may be stale dated. You could look in the local paper. You could subscribe to a service that may or may not have relevant and timely (or accurate) information.
