TX Sheriff’s Auction

I did my first Sheriff’s Auction this month. I won a 1300 sqrft 4BR 2BA house in a small east Texas town. It is currently occupied. From the street I can see it needs a new roof. This home is not under homestead exemption so we only have a 6 month redemption period. I understand I can do work to prevent further damage. Has anyone replaced a roof during the redemption period?
