How long or how soon after lis pendens were filed do you recommend to contact homeowners on Long Island, NY?

I read it can take up to 3 years to get to the auction, usually about a year.

Should I contact people just before the auction? Like a few weeks before? Or should I contact them right away after lis pendens were filed?
