What to do with valuables left behind after Sheriff Sale.
So they left a bunch of nice things behind! I usually only get the junk. As I understand it, I have to place it in storage and notify the owner, giving them some time to recover the items. I have never had to do this. Anyone know the proper procedure? Post the property with a notice? Send them a letter? How long do I have to store? Any input would be appreciated!

Normally I self insure myself in these situations IE just haul it all to the dump as those who lost homes Normally don't have the means to sue.. Although @Brian Burke has a whopper of a story on this one if he cares to share..
but each state has their own rules.. I would not rely on on line advice at ALL.
in this case I would consult an attorney who is familiar with this section of the code.. then follow those directions to a tee..
again if you think there is a bunch of Actual valuable stuff left behind.
Also maybe try to contact the old owners and or relatives and see if they will come and get it all.
