After the tax sale auction: What to do now? (Alabama & others)

Ok, so the Jefferson county AL auction was Tuesday May 23rd. I got all 3 of my bids. One was for my friend; she gave me $1200 and said find her a house.  Ok, so the county does not issue tax certificates to the buyers from their auction, they just assess it in the buyer's name.  The only paperwork I have is the receipts.  Since I was the one bidding my friends house my name is on the receipt but they did allow me to fill out an assignment of tax sale certificate to transfer it to her.

Now our houses that we purchased are both vacant. Her house I am positive the company went under.  My house.......I'm not sure yet, but am proceeding to taking possession anyway.  We spent today (the 24th) cleaning up our properties, pulling building permits, getting utilities turned on, waiting on insurance quote, etc.

There was no surprises with my house. I got it without seeing the inside and I was NOT disappointed. Now my friends house........I'm just gonna assume that the sump pump is present & working and the only reason the basement was FLOODED is because the electricity was not on. I didn't even know it had a basement. It looks more like a muddy cave. Not sure what to do about that.....

@Denise Evans  Even though the county will let me transfer it, how am I supposed to make a sell on my tax certificate without my certificate? Buyers want to see some kind of documentation besides a receipt. I don't mind holding 1 of my houses for 3 years but the other house I bought is so big and creepy I want my money back, lol!   I'm tempted to call the previous owner and ask them how soon will they be redeeming.
