Managing self storage facilities w technology remotely?

Can't quite wrap my head around this but heard of self storage facilities (smaller ones under 50k leaseable) being operated without an on site manager.  I don't know the details but I figure it involves punching in access into a key pad and a lot of security cameras.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm intrigued as it would greatly increase NOI as we have an on site manager for a small property 35k leaseable which really cuts into NOI.

This is a rural facility. It has gates and cameras. I believe most tenants feel safe. Some tenants want to see someone at the office but you explain to them that everything is handled via phone email or kiosk which has a 24 hour call center.

If you want added security you can always contact with a private security company for drive through visits as an added layer. Also, the local police will often drive through on their patrols if you give them a gate code
