Direct Mail Response! Now what..

I received an email back from my direct mail campaign, the owner is interested in selling. Before we got into anything he wants to "verify who I am. And verify that I have the funds to purchase." He is asking if I can send him enough information to do a credit report on me.

Is this something unusual? He is an older gentleman that might see things differently than me, so I am trying to make him as comfortable as possible in this process.

Thanks,

@Collette Petersen

That's great you got a response back! If you have funds available, a simple proof of funds letter from your bank should suffice and they usually don't include any really personal information. Regarding giving him the information to run a credit report on you: NO WAY IN HELL! If you are providing proof of funds to close, why does he give a hoot about your credit score? Or are you trying to have him owner finance it or something?

It's not unusual for someone to be skeptical when they receive unsolicited offers, but you shouldn't need POF and a credit report. If you give us a little more information about how you plan to structure the deal, we can add additional advice.
