Seller is requesting Social Security #

Hello, my agent asked me for my social security number to provide to the seller of a home that I’m purchasing. She says since they are International (Brazilian) sellers, they need it for tax purposes. I told her I wasn’t  entirely comfortable with providing my social and that the tile company already has it. She wasn’t happy and said hopefully the deal doesn’t fall through. Has anyone given sellers their social security number? Is there another way this can be handled without giving sellers my social?

Hmmm . . . Giving your social security number to a buyer from out of the country . . . what could go wrong there lol?

You shouldn’t ever give your ssn to anyone besides a financial institution.
