Buying a property with public nuisance judgments

Carl Saxon
Posted

A property just went back on the market after being under contract with another buyer. My agent said the buyer walked because of a public nuisance judgement on the property that the owner didn’t have the cash to pay for. My agent is guessing it’s the front steps entering the property, which to me seems like a relatively easy fix.

Is there a way to learn a bit more about the judgements on the property and how to clear them? At the moment, i’m still very interested in the property as a rental. I can’t seem to find much information on this. Thanks!

@Carl Saxon, not to contradict your agent, but public nuisance is typically something like front steps.  If it is the front steps it may have come down to the type of buyer financing and that financing requiring the property to meet special conditions.

You can also try to call city hall and tell them you want to know any public nuisance information about xyz address, they will either give it to you or tell you where to find it. Make sure to reference your right to the information due to the Freedom of Information Act.
