Real estate agent lied

Katelyn Bowen
Posted

I recently sold my house. I put it on the market for 345,000, the seller's agent came back and said it appraised for 340,000 based on square footage was off. I called the appraiser and asked how he obtained square footage. He admitted he goofed and sent a reappraisal. When I called the agent and told her about this she said I was in the wrong and hung up on me. We legally had to go thru with the sale at 340,00. Now I'm wondering if I have any leg to stand on to go after the real estate agent for that 5,000 or her BAC?

Did you use an attorney? You don't legally have to go through anything.  Plenty of deals have fallen apart due to appraisal.  It is usually your choice to request a new appraisal or appraisal adjustment.

It the appraiser admitted he screwed up you should be able to get that adjusted pretty easily.  Someone dropped the ball.  If it came in at 340k and you agreed to it before you found out about the discrepancy that is a different story.

I would contact your attorney if you had one.
