Investing out of your area
How does one get a good understanding of the crime in neighborhoods besides looking at crime maps? I am from California and looking at investing in Kansas City, MO area.

- Go there!
- Make friends in the market who can tell you details about what it's like (careful, sometimes their info is a decade out of date and the line between good and bad has moved dramatically)
- Local newspapers
- Local forums, such as the area's Subreddit.
- Local Facebook groups
- Property Managers - ask them what they think about a specific area. If they tell you there's too much crime in a given area for them...there you go!
