Realtor Custom in Kansas City MO

I'm from Cali and my agents in CA and TX where I buy typically have a contract in my inbox within 30 minutes after I tell them to make an offer. I recently started looking in KC and the agent working for me first makes my offer verbally, after which - if accepted - is followed up by several hours before I get a contract in my inbox to sign. Is this a KC or midwest thing to not immediately send a contract but make a verbal offer first? I want to be respectful of local custom and not create tension with an otherwise responsive agent, yet it's personally maddening as I recently found out 3 days after a verbal offer was sent that was already under contract that same day my offer was communicated, yet that was never communicated to me for 3 days and only after I insisted my agent inquire on status. I'm not trying to ride roughshod over my agent, but man...
