Are some properties listed on MLS just for compliance

This has happened twice to me now. Property is listed on MLS. Ask realtor to arrange showing. They try to reach the listing agent, who doesn't respond or responds slowly. Then suddenly on day 5 listing agent says the property is sold.

Is the property already sold and is put on MLS just for some sort of compliance? Just baffled with this since it has happened twice. Generally properties have open house and an offer date.

The 2 properties had no open house and listing agent says they are taking offers as they come.

Am I missing something?
