Calling all successful door knockers or ppl who know what works

What are the successful door knockers saying when the individual comes to the door? What is the best way to introduce myself? I will be knocking on doors that are from my driving for dollars list or my tax list but I imagine the guideline should be similar if not the same for both? I think i remember hearing somewhere that you don't mention anything about their situation (if they are in one).
