Are you going to invest in real estate around Amazon's HQ2?

According to some estimates, Amazon's HQ2 could bring in

100s of thousands of jobs that will require residential and

commercial space as high paid workers need places to live,

retail spaces to eat out at, hang out at, work at, work out at, etc.

If you had invested in downtown Seattle around Amazon HQ1

BEFORE they hired 50,000 high paying tech workers,

you would probably retired by now...

According to this article, here's the short list of local real estate markets:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/19/amazon-executives-...

  • Atlanta
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Indianapolis
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Montgomery County, Md.
  • Nashville, Tenn.
  • Newark, N.J.
  • New York City
  • Northern Virginia
  • Philadelphia
  • Pittsburgh
  • Raleigh, N.C.
  • Toronto
  • Washington, D.C.

What is your take on residential and retail markets in these locales?

3 of the locations are here in the DC area. Montgomery County, Northern Virginia and DC proper. So statistically speaking, our market has the highest chance of landing it with 3 out of the 20 locations being here.

However I do not envision any significant effect on our local market.  Amazon is going to create 50,000 jobs over a roughly 5 year period.  Well we lost 10,000 jobs overnight when Discovery Communications up and moved to NYC, and that had zero effect on our market.

Amazon might have a dramatic effect on some of these markets like Raleigh or Indianapolis...but on the bigger wealthier markets like here, Boston, NYC/NJ, I dont see any big deal other than the immediate neighborhood where it lands.
