Making money with scams?

It seems like there is always someone coming up with a scam to suck money out of the pockets from those that are desperate to make easy money fast. Is the real money in real estate investing or scamming people with all these push button programs that are supposed to make real estate investing so easy? I am curious though. Where do gurus come up with the ideas and resources to invent their simple push button programs that is supposed to do all the work for you while you just sit back and watch the money roll in? By the way, where do they get those "testimonials" who give rave reviews about the guru products? They even go so far as to show people with the big paychecks they earned using their system.
