Indianapolis, Indiana: Rental or business license?

Andri Artayudianto

Hi, BP. What licenses do I need to have to operate a rental property in Indianapolis, IN? Do I have to apply for a tax ID? Register the property?

In short, Is there something I have to apply with the city after I purchase the property?

Thank you

Andri,

This is a recent change where you are required to register as a landlord in Indianapolis.

As of right now it appears the registration is five dollars and the penalty is 500 per property for not registering. Hope this helps have a great day.

Matt
