Young Real Estate Investor Needing Advice

Keaton Opila
  • Houston, TX
Posted

Good day to everyone,

Little background first, my name is Keaton, 25, I recently moved back to Houston, TX and am living at home with the parents temporarily. I lived in Lafayette, LA where I bought and sold my first house. My family has been in the real estate business as small scale builders the past 10 years.

My problem/predicament  is that I have $50k cash to invest into a new home. I want to invest that money into a new real estate venture with my father. However, I also want to get off the parent's "couch" and buy a home for myself to remodel and have potential roommates move in with me.

I want to do both, but don't quite have the capital do both, any suggestions?

Hi Keaton,

How do you feel about house hacking?  It is one way it will get you off the couch, into your own place and have the other unit(s) pay for your mortgage while you save & fix up.  When you're ready, you can move out into something else and rent the unit you just left.

At 25... that is a good place to start IMO.

Hope this helps!
