Does a Duplex Qualify for the Extended Home Buyer Tax Credit?

A current homeowner (5+ years) asked me if he'd qualify for the $6500 tax credit if he were to buy a duplex.... he plans on using it as his primary residence on one side and renting the other. Since this would be half primary residence and half investment property, I'm not sure if it qualifies ... anyone know?
