Finding a Home Inspector

Steve A
Posted

Finally got an offer accepted on a SFR in San Pedro CA. Since I'm using the listing agent, I'm not sure I want to go with her recomended home inspector.

Any LA-based home inspectors you can recommend?

Any tips on finding an inspector?

Thanks

My guess would be that the listing agent would recomend the inspector that she knows is the slackest.

Home inspectors vary a lot in their knowlege and willingness to crawl into dark places. Seriouslty, I saw one report where the inspector wouldn't remove 4 screws to look at the water heater. The report just said he was unable to access the water heater. I wouldn't have liked to have paid him money for that job.

I'd ask local investors who they use for inspections. The agents want the house to pass so they can copmplete the sale and get their commission.
