Kind of new to direct mail, so my question is:

How do you streamline this process? Is it as tedious as it seems? For example, driving to find distressed properties, Finding out their mailing address, and writing up one by one each piece of mail. Any tips on this process? Thanks a ton!

@Drew Dordan Looks like you're getting responses from everyone who has a DM business.  Lucky you.  :)

I'll go against the grain and say that unless you have a good amount of capital, create the lists and keep the mailings in house.  Direct mail can get expensive and in the beginning, it's going to take time to get a good understanding of the best way to pull/create a list.  It's not difficult, but it's not as easy as pulling a list and mailing.

I personally love DFD becuase I get many deals off the list. This list definitely take some time to create becuase, as you mentioned, there are a lot of steps to it. However, this is why I like this list, most people don't take the time to do it. I would print out a street map and draw the route you want to take. write down the address on a pad or paper and then enter them into excel when you get home. I'm sure you can hire a VA to pull the owners name and mailing address but it might be a good idea for you to gather this info first so you know how to do it.

There are ways to leverage technology so that you can populate the data faster after you drive but the way I've been doing it is through my MLS and things may be set up differently in your state.
