Ontario - Phasing out natural gas for heating
http://ca.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idCAKCN...
Ontario will be spending $5.4 billion to cut the carbon footprint and phase out natural gas for heating. While the argument is based solely on the potential environmental advantages, utility costs will be dramatically higher at the current electricity vs. natural gas rates in Ontario (at least in London). The building code rules will require that all new homes by 2030 are heated with electricity/geothermal systems.
Union Gas isn't happy about it:
I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this initiative.
Will anyone be holding off on renovations until the grants/rebates are put into place?

I'm sure the Ontario power folks would love an extra 2700 x pretty well every house that is currently heated with a gas furnace.
I just installed a brand new 2 stage high-efficiency gas furnace in my duplex.
I heat the property for 55/month...that's both units. I'm sure my super efficient natural gas furnace is 4-5x as efficient as electric heating. I can't stand the city of London or Government at any level - especially when they tell me what I can and cannot do.
I think the natural landlord move is to move our tenants over to paying their own utilities...so this is really just going to hurt the citizens of Ontario (those renting too).
Btw I really like that Natural gas is never on-peak...it's always one price. I am looking into replacing my stoves and dryers with gas over electric because they run at 300% cheaper on gas.
I think the London hydro rates nearly 250% higher than other areas in the US.
More and more I think Ontario and Wynn liberals just want to crush small business owners, landlords, or pretty well anyone who is trying to make it in the world.
On a side note the new liberal Canada Child Benefit pays $533/month per child uncapped, scaled down as your income rises above 29k. That tax free benefit is over 5000/month if you have 9 kids :)
I might as well have a few more kids and quit my job. 3 kids is 1600/month in tax free cash money.
The new perfect tenant is unemployed and has many kids.
Why work in this country when tax rates are 56%?!
Sorry my rant is over. You can tell that I love the Liberals and all they do for this fine country...
