Can someone who has experience with this comment on this estimate in the NYC area? Basically, the furnace was installed incorrectly in the boiler room and is taking air from the boiler room itself instead of the fresh air from the rest of the basement. Also, the units that were installed are oversized hence ineffective with humidity. Also, no return air at all on 1st floor. I suffer from allergies so asked the HVAC company to install something that can provide for a Merv 13 air filter. Here is the estimate:

For the attic unit, we will install an Aprilaire media filter. ($800)

We will rotate the furnace for the 1st floor and basement that had previously been installed incorrectly. We will re-pipe flute pipe, electrical, refrigeration piping, install Aprilaire media filters and add grille with duct work through the wall into the finished area of the basement. At the top of the basement’s staircase, we will install a transfer grille to allow air back into return. ($2500)

We will remove and dispose of the 4 ton condensing unit servicing the 1st floor. We will repair the 3 ton unit servicing the 2nd floor, and install it in place for the 1st floor unit. We will install a 2 ton Goodman unit to service the 2nd floor. We will do all necessary refrigeration piping, low voltage electrical connections, and line voltage electrical connections. ($2500)
