Got this from the sponsor - Real estate gain is 1231 - but there will also be recapture of depreciation which is ordinary income.

With a few unknowns before the actual k-1 is released, it's hard to make any concrete decisions but was just wondering if I should sell some long-term held stock at fidelity to offset the gains

Guys - I am a limited partner & invest in a multi-family building passively that was sold resulting in passive gains for 2024. There are some accumulated passive losses but not much. Can I sell some of my stock held long-term for 3 yrs at etrade to further offset the gains? Thanks

Folks - old Thread but typically what % do you expect annually for property management including some break/fix costs. Just making some calculations vs continuing to invest with large multi-family sponsors. Thanks

Does anybody on these boards have experience with Stillwater (through Geico) and also Markel/personalumbrella.com - the latter's quote is $100 higher but I'm wondering if their customer service experience is much better than Stillwater. I'm not a landlord but this is just for personal single owner home and my current auto is through Geico

Also are umbrella policies mostly comprable or I should ask for a declarations page to study them to see what's covered or any specific questions I should ask?

thanks

It is complete indeed but you seem to know this well. Do you mind providing some more details on this statement and if it can offset some w-2 income

All prior suspended losses from this investment are indeed released in the year of sale, but not against capital gains really. They end up offsetting the non-REI income, due to a very complex formula applied at sale.

Guys - this is regarding investing passively in multi-family. Can you take unallowed losses accumulated for a property directly against capital gains when the property is sold? In addition, am I accurate in stating that passive RE investing isn't tax avoided but rather tax deferred on distributions which you can re-invest immediately and then pay off later at property sale

If somebody also has a blog or video which talks about how to read your final k-1, that'll be helpful. I found quite a few on regular k1's but nothing on the final k-1

Thanks

Is passive investing in a large multi-family in Garland 15 mins walking distance to lake ray hubbard worth it from a cash flow perspective (the sponsor is planning to make some improvements of course)

Tushar - my CPA didn't fully explain your last few questions but said he's often seen states don't even bother coming after folks with low profit amounts. My losses currently in these 12 states range from anywhere from $300 - $4000 so wondering what my cut-off point should be. Let's say the cut-off point is $1000 and assuming it'll stay the same for the remaining 4 years of this property. That's $5000 in total losses. Would that roughly translate to me losing roughly 55% of that or $2750 when the property gets sold?

Can you list the states which are very strict? I know CA is one, any others you can list that I should be wary of? Thx
