You can probably get something for 600K is some parts of the Bronx but you'll inherit a lot of problems with the property. I strongly recommend North Jersey as you'll get way more bang for your buck and your open to a much wider selection

I would strongly recommend looking into North Jersey suburbs as there are a lot of great starter homes for $500-$600k, that are nicely kept and renovated. I'm currently helping two clients find a starter house in Bergen County for the same price $500k-$640k Max. There are a lot of great, renovated houses in excellent neighborhoods in Bergen County. Some of the top rated schools, downtowns, neighborhood, and safety ratings in the North East. Let me know if I can help in any way, thanks.

Hi Shivani,

You may find a property in either location that meets your criteria.  Work with a good professional to open up your search process and help you narrow in on a home.

Possibly find something that needs some repair work at a discounted price.  There are a lot of programs available to help with renovation costs being built into the loan on a primary residence purchase.

Would be helpful to have more

information . are you looking for cash flow or appreciation ?

New Jersey’s taxes cut into the former.
I recommend Sullivan County New York .

for that price , you can buy an apartment building with a dozen doors or seven single-family homes

@Shivani Suresh

The major three factor usually new buyers consider  are

Commute to Office,  Neighborhood/Schools &  Price.

You have to give more weightage/compromise in one over the others, to find the right home. You and your family will be spending good 7-10 years in this homes. Depending on your priorities, short list the towns fit into these above segments and then look for properties in these towns.

    Hi Shivani,

    How are things progressing with your search process for a new home?

    There are some flexible financing programs available for first time homebuyers.
