Can I promote a meetup that is not REI necessarily?

Hey I am starting a meet up in Indianapolis Indiana on December the 8th and I just want to make sure, before I try, that it is ok to promote a meetup that is sales and marketing oriented, useful to rei's but obviously not exclusively rei. I don't want to get banned from starting groups here.
