Are solar panels a good value add for B&H

Hey guys,

I'm looking to renovate a house hack property. I've been considering going solar on the property.

I'm wondering if going solar will add any rental value to the additional unit. If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm in New Jersey, Essex county to be exact.

As others have said, it really depends upon the market.

Absolutely do not consider if the roof isn't brand new.

My grandparents lived in Essex county, so I have an impression of what the area was like in the 1980's and 1990's. I think solar would be an asset there, but not based upon any numbers other than what's listed on solarpowerrocks.com where they show that New Jersey is the #1 best solar-friendly state in the country right now.  Since you will be living there, I would be more likely to say go for it. If you plan to house-hack for a short time only, then move away, I might consult some others in your specific market.

We have solar on our rental here in Madison, WI. Here it does attract very green-minded tenants. In my experience, these tenants take really good care of the property. Can you also give them a place to garden?
