getting good contractors?

First off if anyone is a contractor in Buffalo NY let me know.

Our company has a contractor that works with us but the quality vs the price is somewhat questionable.

What is a reasonable price per hour for a contractor? I assume that depends on the job and area but ball park would be good.

What are some of the ways you have found quality contractors?

Do you still go to multiple contractors for a bid? ( assume job of a certain size? maybe a whole flip?)
