Is it possible to start out as an agent w/o a huge sphere?

I just got my license but I don’t have a huge sphere of influence. I have coworkers from my current job but they don’t want to be bombarded with emails and phone calls from me. I talk to them about being an agent. Is there another way to grow my sphere?

I'm coming from a very different angle, but we couldn't find good, smart agents that wanted to work, so my wife, who has a degree in interior design and was working with our funds running construction crews, agreed to get her license to sell our properties when we sold them. It turned out that she was fantastic at it. She didn't expect to have other outside clients, but referrals started to grow. I even grabbed my license to help out every once in a while. She sold 8-figures by herself (not related to Castle Rock's stuff) so far in 2019. Every brokerage preaches the same, tired crap to grow your business...talk to family and friends, call expired listings, call FSBOs. You have to determine what skill set you have that sets you apart. She has a degree in Interior Design, so she took great photos of her work and built a following on social media. She just finished a job where she helped a buyer buy a $1.25 million home and then assisted them to renovate it. She's currently working with another client that purchased a waterfront 4000 sf complete gut-job. People see her design work and read her posts that are filled with construction knowledge that 99.9% of realtors don't possess. It really works for her. First of all, realize that if you do the same tired crap that all of the other realtors do, you will fail like they do. You have to find what sets you apart and exploit it. That is the best advice that I can give you.
