New agent seeking advice about finding the right brokerage.

Hello everyone,

I have just received my license in February. I interviewed with 5 brokerages and spoke with many agents before selecting a brokerage. The main reason why I chose the brokerage that I started with was the training program, coaching and how the agents raved about the company.

Well, here I am almost 3 months later without a deal and still trying to find someone to help and train me. The brokerage that I selected made tons of promises that ended up not being true. The coach moved to another state, the train program is "getting revamped", and the broker acts so busy when you try to ask him a question.

My main question is what would you do in my situation? I feel that I am in a no win situation with this company. Is there a way to turn it around? Should I cut my losses and seek a team or a mentor? Anyone know of someone in Reno, Nevada or anyone that I can speak that can give advise me on how to move forward?

@Ryan Driscoll  I have owned real estate companies and mortgage companies, and employed 100's of agents over the years. I am going to give you some great advice!  Stop looking for the right "brokerage" and start looking for the right "agent / mentor".  The broker or company is only focused on the big picture, growing the company, being profitabel, recruiting, etc...

I would look at a few companies you like, based on location, reputation, splits and whatever else is important to you.  Ask the broker who their top 5 agents are in each office, and then pick up the phone and call them.  Don't do it with text or email, talk to them on the phone.  Tell them you need some mentoring, and you are willing to help them with some of their tasks, and even pay them maybe 25% of your commission on the first few deals.  I have trained many agents this way over the years. Agents who just came to me and asked for help and offered something for my time.

Yes, a lot of agents and brokers are jerks and think they are something, but there are also some really good people.  Pick a few who you like, and if you don't get what you want, keep going down the list of agents until you find someone who has experience, a good attitude, and can help you.

Good Luck!
