How do you deal with people who don't share the same ambition as you do.

After I told a few people that I just signed up for a real estate course and will be getting my license soon, I have had two different reactions so far. I told other real estate agents that I know, and they were so happy for me, and were really encouraging, and on the other hand people who aren't in the real estate industry at all have been telling me that it could be good idea to just get my license but to have another job lined up because of how the market is, and overall they weren't too encouraging. Now, I know that It is a good idea to have a back up plan just in case, (which I do) I would like to know other peoples opinion on this, and if they were ever in the same situation as me right now. What did you end up doing? Do you feel like that was the right decision?
