PA License/ Part timer/ Advice
Hey BP's I need some guidance. I was recently licensed in PA a few weeks ago and I am attempting to start off as an agent part time. This is so I can keep my steady job and the check while I learn the ropes and gain some confidence. Has anyone gone through this yet? I hear it can be done and be quite lucrative. Unfortunately I did not save any extra money to live off of. I am just a little concerned with quitting a full time secure job to go into a 100% commission based lifestyle. Especially when I see a million signs around with a million different agent names on them.
I got into the classes to learn more about real estate and some of the rules so that I could invest in buy and holds. I did not want to be 100% dependent on an agent without knowing a little more. I have "trust issues.." HA
Thanks for any advice and here's to a great 2014..!!
Rick

I agree with @Shawn Mcenteer Don't try to be all things to all people. And don't specialize in million dollar homes only, because that's where the majority of all other agents want their listings and buyers to come from. Is there anything that you're particularly good at or know about homes so you'd be able to market that? Starting off part time is best .
My personal thoughts would be to find out who in your office has a "team". That's generally an agent who does a ton of volume and can't cover all the leads themselves. They will generally have both buyer's agents and seller's agents who work for them. They're primarily marketers who've been in the business for years and farm out the work to members of the team splitting the commissions with them. You'll have to do things their way however it can give you the exposure you need by giving you a client base to work with that you don't have yourself. Its probably the best way to get your foot in the door and learn the ropes. Plus if they're really successful you'll understand the business aspect of it from a successful agent. You'll make lower commissions however you'll have people to work with, and that's money in the door!
I highly recommend reading The Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller. If you really want to become a superstar real estate agent I believe its the premier book on the subject.
