Broker License But No MLS Agent Code

Jon Fletcher
Posted

I obtained my broker license and have successfully represented Buyers on five transactions without joining an MLS. Each time, the Seller's Agent asks for an MLS Agent Code, and I just tell them that I don't have one. Is there a better answer I can provide?

"Sorry, while Im a licensed broker, Im not actually a member of the MLS".

Also be aware that if you are not an MLS member, you need to get a commission agreement signed by the agent to pay you if you are on the buy side. Commission offered in the MLS is offered to MLS members, and not unilaterally to all licensed agents. As a member of the board, this is a complaint we often see filed, and we dont actually bother hearing it. (Im assuming your MLS uses the same rules nearly every MLS in the country uses)
