Buying and investing in suburban residential plots for profit.

I am wanting to know about investing in residential plots. I read in a book recently that some lady was buying suburban plots before they were built on and months later was selling them for a good profit margin. Does anyone here invest in area's like this? I would be interested in learning more about the process. Thank you.
