Multi family investing- So many questions

I’m just getting started in multi family property investment. 
i am wondering if an LLC is necessary or if an umbrella policy will cover me as far as liability?

Also do try to I get a conventional Mtg loan under my name for financing? Or try a commercial loan with the LLC?

I’m talking about buying one or two duplexes at this point.
