My first REI meeting

So I was finally able to attend my first REI meeting. I would definitely recommend for everyone to at least check out your local REI once to see whats going on there.

I was able to find a free pass for my first meeting from their website (saved me $20). The meeting was from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, broken up at 7:30 with a brief intermission.

I got there about 20 minutes early and was able to check out some of the businesses there. A few hard money lenders, an investor friendly title company, a realty office with some investment properties to name a few.

Once the meeting started they talked about various things going on with the organization, workshops coming up, sales numbers for the market, etc. They gave members a 15 second window to make announcements...some were trying to sell properties or plug their business.

The most interesting part I thought was the deal of the month, they chose 2 members to explain a recent deal they closed. One was a couple who wholesaled a note, another a lady who closed her first wholesale deal.

Although I was surprised to see that those deals of the month didn't make them 1 million dollars overnight, it was inspiring to see real people closing deals even if they were on the smaller scale. Things like that motivate me to move forward and close my first deal too.

What I wasn't such a fan of was the guest speaker they brought in after the intermission. It was basically a guru-ish guy trying to sell some workshops they had coming up. For some people it may be good, but I'd prefer to continue reading here on BP and skip the gurus.

But regardless I would recommend anyone starting out to at least attend one meeting and form your own opinions.
