Investing in rental properties in Oklahoma City, Dallas, or Waco?

Moving from Utah to DFW area. The housing market has boomed so it’s giving me some decent equity from my home to start investing in real estate.

I’m wanting to get my first rental property but want to know where it’s best to begin. Dallas area is where we’ll live but Oklahoma City and Waco have more affordable homes to buy meaning I’d likely be able to buy two to rent.

Hoping to start building some passive income. What area would be best for a long-term investment?

Hey Nate,

If you are looking to be more hands on with your rentals, I'd definitely recommend Waco because of the easier commute from Dallas. You may find yourself staying here longer each time though; Waco is a charming town! I can't speak to OKC and their market, but I'll tell you that Waco's real estate market is just as hot as the rest of Texas.

We don't have the bidding wars like Austin or Dallas, so I think you'll have a higher chance of success finding a few rentals down here. I always tell clients that are moving from out of state that their money will work harder for them here in Waco than other over-saturated markets. Investor numbers still work here, you just have to be patient and leave no stone unturned.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you come visit!
