Foreign investment for beginner from Asia
Hi guys
Absolute beginner here. I'm an Indian currently residing in Qatar.
I have about 40k USD to invest. And this amount I have exclusively set aside only for investment purposes in any foreign market. Is it possible to buy property and generate rental income with that amount?
I have zero background in real estate in general and the US is no exception. Have a few good friends in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia , and thats all my connection with US is.
1 USD = 73.34 INR .
1 USD = 3.64 QAR
What suggestions and advises do you guys have for me?
Thank you so much !

Welcome to the Biggerpockets forums, @Hiba Sabir! You've done a good job setting aside these funds for investment and I'm glad you're here asking questions and growing your knowledge!
In general you can invest in real estate in a few different ways in the US (probably some of this translates to other markets).
- Purchase a property yourself, using all cash or using cash+loan
- Invest in real estate with a small partnership (like the friends you have in PA)
- Invest in large partnerships (like Trusts, Funds, and Syndications)
At $40k you'll have some good options to invest primarily in the small partnership structures or in large partnerships. As a non-citizen and non-resident in US there will be some challenges with the first option, but the second and third should provides some nice returns as you grow your knowledge of real estate investing.
Personally I'm curious about the Indian market . . . there's a lot to love about Delhi, Pune, Mysore and a few other cities. Do you still have connections back home?
