House hacking, how long do I need to live in the property?

So I understand that I need to live in the property for at least 1 year but do I need to live in that property 24/7?

1. I was thinking of living with my family members in their properties for free. 

2. I was also thinking of living in the barracks because the army already pays for it.

3. Can I take vacations or do I need to live in that property all day?
