How should I start out my Real Estate investing career?

Good afternoon, I am currently 18 years old and I have taken a huge interest in Investing in real estate. My father owns a title insurance company and my mother just got herself back into it as well as a real estate agent. I just never really thought about it much until now.

My long term goal is to become an investor in commercial R.E. and residential. However, what are the steps i should take in order learn rather then just reading countless books. I want the hands on experience rather then just knowledge from books.
Should i start out as a real estate agent and learn the business?

Suggestions please! Thank you and have a wonderful day!
