New to RE investing
Hello, I just graduated from high school with an associates degree. I am 18 yrs old and did not continue school because I couldn't find a major that I enjoyed but I think real estate might be it. I need advice on how I should proceed; I love the idea of flipping houses or renting them for a profit I know it won't be easy but I have a lot of time on my hands to learn.
I am new to everything including biggerpockets, any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance.
Welcome Joel Aleman,
you have found a GREAT place to learn from. Interaction is the key. ASK = Always Seeking Knowledge and this site will never let you down. If you haven't already read the Free Beginners guide as there is a lot of good information in the 60+pages, also listen to the pod casts, as I have found them very informative + they are from actual BP members sharing there experiences.
If you want to flip houses or buy rentals you are going to need some money. I know I didn't have that kind of money coming out of high school.
I agree with Ron, you need to start with education. Find a local REIA in your area. http://www.mynationalreia.com/ClubPortal/795files/Directory.cfm?clubID=795&statevalue=TX
Talk to people there, attend meetings, etc. Talk to rehabbers, rental owners. See what they do, how they do it. Find a mentor.
Good luck & welcome to BP
Hello Joel. I too am new to the Real Estate field. Since I too was once interested in RE Investing, I have already enrolled in a RE school. Although the material is dense, I can tell you first hand that I am learning A LOT. All the best to you.
Welcome Ryan. Bryan and Ron are right on. Start reading as much as you can. I've found the resources on the site are invaluable, its such a great community to bounce things off of.
Welcome to BP Joel Aleman. You started off by finding one of the best sites for information. Joshua Dorkin and Brandon Turner have done an incredible job and try to keep the site as authentic and real as possible. I believe it is one of the best sites out there and you can get any answer you are looking for by just asking. You are young and what a great time to start. It took me until my 40's to get started in real estate investing so don't wait. However you MUST be prepared and learn, learn, and did I say learn as much as you can. Don't get paralysis analysis because you also have to take action. Like Bryan H. says go to your local REIA meetings and start hanging out with real estate investors and learn from those that are doing. Be careful and don't' fall for any get rich quick schemes out there because they are very appealing but 99% of the time the claims are not true. Keep us all updated here on BP as many are here to help!
