Condo renovation in Rancho Santa Margarita CA

I'm in escrow on 510 sf condo that needs complete renovation. I may rent it later on after my obligatory VA year live in residence.

How do I renovate but not "over renovate?"

I'm also looking for a general contractor in the area to hire for the renovation, any connections welcome!
