How do I find a good contractor/handyman

Im ready to flip homes. I own/manage a duplex and recently purchased a property using 203k financing. My mistake was using a contractor that was highly referred (he had all the necessary licenses & insurances, etc. that's required for FHA). He did ok.... but never again. I feel I overpaid. My normal handyman, a great guy, is 74 yrs young. He taught me alot over the last 20+ years. I spend alot of time in hardware stores & watching DIY tutorials. But I am having a hard time finding a contractor/handyman. I feel the only person missing from my flip team is a contractor/handyman. Any suggestions?

Stop at any house being renovated you see. You will either meet an investor to network with or a contractor. You will be able to see the contractors work. If you follow up you will see how often the contractor is there and his work habits.

I heard to go to Home Depot or Lowes @ 6:30 in the morning, that is when the good contractors get started

Lastly network with other rehabbers. If you share what you know they may share with you. Good luck - Ned.
