Usefulness of a Real Estate License

Hey BP community, So i'm reading up on some of BP's material for newbs and I wanted to know the usefulness of a RE License for california. In my mind, a RE lic. would help by gaining access to the MLS, but doesn't one need their license hung with a broker? Are there any other advantages to having a RE Lic. other than this?
