Can I get a mortgage without a good employment history

I am pretty new to investing and I want to get into my first buy and hold investment, but I do not have a long or steady employment history. Is there any way for me to get a mortgage. I am highly confident that if I got one I would have no problem making the payment every month, but I am concerned that I will not be able to get a mortgage to begin with without a longer employment history.
