Start off buying apartment complexes

Hi, Joe here new to the game!  My end goal as I’m sure everyones is to create passive income.  Anyone start by buying apartment complexes?  Would you do it again knowing what you know now?  If I can make my first purchase with 6-10 units that is already generating cash flow is there any reason to start small if my ultimate goal Is to own 6-10 units?
