Cincinnati House Hack & First Time Home Buyer

Hey everyone,

I made a post ~ 6 months ago similar to this but am now finally in a place to execute (baby steps, you know?). In that time I've continued to educate myself and convince my lady that REI is the way to go. She and I just moved from Seattle to Cincinnati (specifically Lebanon, OH). It was a big move and we're still getting our footing. We've been living here for about 3 months with family due to COVID-19. We're hoping in the next 3-8 months (12 months max) to purchase our first house/investment.

We're considering a duplex or a single-family home with a finished (preferably walkout) basement (or ability finish) closer to downtown. Though I would like to max out our investment with more doors, both my lady and I work full time and I have a side business. So our time is a big limitation, which I hope will change after getting into the REI game. We would live at the property for potentially 1-2 years while renting out the other side/basement/roommates.

We're still new to the area but we've heard good things about...

  • Blue Ash
  • Deer Park
  • Mount Lookout
  • & my girl likes Mariemont a lot

My plan was to immediately jump into some of the local real estate meetups to network but that has been delayed due to COIVID. We haven't even been comfortable going to look at houses (though I have been driving around neighborhoods) as we are living with high-risk family members.

Anyways, I'd love to network with any investors or agents in the area. I'm looking to potentially do a Zoom calls in place of meeting up for coffee. If y'all have any info on areas to check out, blog posts that helped you, or advice I'm completely open.

Thank you all

Welcome to Ohio! I am at the opposite end of the state, outside of Cleveland. Are you in any REIA (real estate investor associations) groups? There are local ones and a state ORIEA. Most are doing virtual meetings as well. I would consider do you want a roomate situation (shared living areas and kitchen etc) or do you want a tenant ie. duplex situation. Best of luck!

Ann
